Money May be Due to You in Regard to Visa / MasterCard Settlement
A major class action suit against Visa and MasterCard for $5.7 billion was finalized by the courts on December 13, 2013. Most merchants are due money shortly, but they have to properly file.
How much money can you get?
The amount will be a portion of the average over the 9 year period from 2004 through 2012. If you average $500K a year you could receive in the area of $2,000. If you average $1 million, it will be about $4,000 and so on, in proportion.
How to Process a Claim:
It will be incumbent upon the merchant to file properly and provide all the sufficient evidence that they did process with Visa and MasterCard (not American Express as part of this litigation).
There will soon be an online mechanism to submit a claim.
However, it may behoove merchants to provide their own estimates of their processing volumes during that period, since they can potentially receive more of an award.
